Orbit Clanton is Deputy Executive Director, and Co- founder of the AIDS Services Organization. Perceptions for People with Disabilities,(PPD) a grassroots 501(c) 3 non-profit organization located in Harlem, who's mission is to help visually impaired/blind, hard of hearing/deaf, physically and/or mentally challenged persons access services and resources. Formed in 2004, PPD advocates on behalf of the Differently-abled, promotes disability awareness, conducts research designed to inform service providers, stakeholders, and funders on the needs and concerns of individuals living with disabilities and HIV/AIDS. In addition to over seeing the financial development of the organization, and the day-to-day operations, and an AIDS activist. Mr. Clanton has been living with HIV/AIDS for twenty-eight years.
In the fall of 2005, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg appointed Mr. Clanton to the HIV Health & Human Service Planning Council of New York City. (PC) [2005-2007] Mr. Clanton served as Chair of the Consumer Committee, and was a member of the Executive Committee to the Planning Council, he gave voice to nearly 100,000 individual living with HIV/AIDS in NYC. Mr. Clanton is an Associated Member of the NYC HIV Prevention Planning Group (PPG).
Mr. Clanton received his education and degree in Occupational Studies in Accounting from Monroe College and continued his education at Fordham University in Business Managerial Accounting with a concentration in Philosophy. Mr. Clanton studies emphasized on Managerial behavior Psychology of people, managing organizations functions, Business Law, Business Finance, and organizational behavior.
Mr. Clanton is a member of the State of New York Department of Health, AIDS Institute Part A Quality of Care Management Steering I Committee, AIDS Institute Community Advisory Council, and a member of the National Institute of Health Community Advisory Board of Cornell AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG). In addition, he served as a member of the Brooklyn Legal Services (CAB). Mr. Clanton served as Co-Chair of the nationally published HIV/AIDS Magazine; "Body Positive" (CAB). Chair of the Central Harlem HIV Care Network. Mr. Clanton is a member of The Convent Avenue Baptist Church. In addition, he has served as Vice chair of their Healing Hope AIDS Ministry (Harlem NY), and is the HIV/AIDS Ministry out Reach Coordinator, where he endeavors to bring about collaboration amongst the other AIDS Ministries of Churches in the upper Manhattan area (Harlem, Washington Heights).
Mr. Clanton worked, as a Junior Account Assistant Analyst in the mid to late 1980's for Drexel, Burnham, Lambert a Wall Street Brokerage House. Mr. Clanton worked for Viking Penguin L. T. D. Publishing House as a Cost Control Associate maintaining the prime, and conversion cost factors. In the 1990's Mr. Clanton did a fellow internship with the NYC Department of Transportation office of Financial Management & Analysis-Technical Budget Administration Division. He assisted the Deputy Budget Director with special budgetary ventures, DOT budget was in access of $1 billion dollars at the time.
Mr. Clanton is a proud Veteran of the United States Navy (1980-1982).
