Voice populations. Students, professionals, and other interested parties have the opportunity to gain conversational skills in ASL. The program also prepares the student for entry into the Interpreter Training Program at SJI or elsewhere. Discussions of deaf culture are a part of each course, and there are frequent opportunities to meet members of the deaf community. Convenient locations and class schedules are offered for all ASL classes. Each session lasts 14 weeks and consists of 84 instructional hours. 5 credits each course.

Description: SJI offers a sign language program for both the deaf and hearing.
SJI offers you: expert instruction in ASL; earn a Bachelor’s degree in Sign Language Interpretation through SJI with Empire State College (SUNY); qualified, competent, diverse and caring instructors with a combined total of more than 65 years of ASL teaching experience; recommended National P.O.N.S.I. course credit upon institutional approval; Board of Education acceptance for the Career Training Program for Paraprofessionals; Board of Education acceptance for Teacher’s “30 and above” program;

V.E.S.I.D. acceptance; scheduled payment plan upon request; convenient evening andsummer classes; counseling and evaluation services; and classes taught in Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. Administrative offices are in Staten Island only.
